How to learn a new language?

People continuously face challenges on every field of life, learning a new language is one of a kind. Depending on circumstances, defining the right methods to learn a new language is much more complex than that because not all criteria and tips are suitable for everyone. This is the main reason that pushed me to find a solution that is suitable for all immigrants who are interested to learn and face new challenges.

Language courses

Language courses are the most used methods by immigrants to start and follow the process of integration in their host country. Yet this group of people often do not succeed due to different reasons depending on their background. So, to have a clear idea on this I will point out the advantages and weaknesses of taking language courses.

a) Advantages

• Courses encourage students because they think it is the right place to learn a new language
• The program of language courses is structured and the content is very useful
• Evaluations and obtaining a language certificate can highly encourage and motivate students

b) Weaknesses

• Participation in big groups with over 10 students from different ages and education backgrounds can be disadvantageous
• The duration of language courses (one year or more) to obtain the certificate can create frustration to many students so they tend to lose focus on it
• Curriculums and professional documents that follow grammar rules do not have a positive impact because most immigrants are interested to learn the language for use in their daily life

Note:

Going through those critics and suggestions you should understand that my goal is to find the right solutions for those who try to find the right way on learning a new language. I do not want to convince anyone to follow or leave language courses but as I mentioned before, there are advantages and weaknesses so we should take in consideration the needs of immigrants, the obstacles they encounter, their backgrounds etc.

Work

Learning language at work has shown good results because people challenge themselves more. This method has a positive impact in society and most immigrants learn spoken language which in fact is used in daily life. As an advantage in this case, I would mention oral practices with natives and as a weakness when immigrants work with people speaking only their own language.

Society

Society can play a good role and reflect a positive impact if there is included diversity in speaking the language where people are living. Often groups in society speak their own or English as a common language which in fact affect in a long term getting used to find solutions on their needs. Talking in three languages in daily life would be very useful since it makes you feel your own things in culture issues than, the language where you live which is useful for daily needs and of course English make sense to keep in trend modern civilization.

Family

Learning the language at home could be advantageous if everyone tries to speak it. Yet to be successful, immigrant families should try to practice the language without forgetting their own. The best way in this case is to follow children which they grow in a different environment following schools, new friends etc.

Media

Learning the language by using the media would play a very positive impact and opportunities are open to everyone. Concrete facts have shown great success in this field, including language learning through television, radio, press, and especially internet. The internet will be a specific case as the opportunities across the web are provided and the materials are of all kinds. In your own computer, you use many terms daily and if you have a deeper focus on language then the ability to learn faster is open.

Recommendation

Regardless of which method you will use, each has its own positive impact. I am giving these methods to encourage immigrants to use the method which fits best to them because as I mentioned in the beginning, it depends on the way how people understand a language based on their educational background. As an advice it would be a good way to try few of them and then compare and chose the one that fits best for you. In the cases when you make mistakes while talking, do not think so much about that but continue to improve your skills and step by step learning will become easier and you will make progress on it.

As a recommendation, taking in consideration my experience from a long journey through different challenges, whatever method you use, remember to repeat words and sentences as many times as you can, even if you know them well or remember easily. Doing language exercises and repeating the same content will help you develop your language skills.
